Things to Be Reminded is a self-portrait video in which I invite my shadow for a conversation. “What’s the matter?” I ask. As a reply, the shadow takes shape in three sizes: a gigantic one cast against the tower, a smaller one that meets my eye level, and a shrinking one close to the feet. Each size symbolizes the responsibilities of an artist, attachment to the family, and the anxiety of a stranger trying to adapt to a foreign city. On one hand, this work is a visual artist statement to my career decision. On the other, it is a cinematic study that sculpts a narrative character with struggles and challenges.
